Self-care, a radical act of self-love

Updated: Sep 26, 2023

I have said it before and will gladly say it again SIS PUT DOWN THE WORLD AND LIFT UP YOURSELF!

The recent deaths of President Joanne Epps, Interim President of Temple University and Dr. Orinthia T. Montague, President of Volunteer State Community College in the past week is a somber reminder that our well-being matters too!

Black women often face unique stressors, from systemic racism and inequalities to the pressure of balancing multiple roles and responsibilities. Often for less money and respect than our counterparts. It's time we prioritize our mental health and well-being by embracing the power of self-care. 💪🏾💆🏾‍♀️

Audre Lorde said "Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” Self-care is not selfish; it's a radical act of self-love and preservation. By taking intentional steps to care for ourselves, we can better manage stress and cultivate resilience. Here are some insights and tips to empower you on your self-care journey:

1️⃣ Prioritize Rest: Rest is not a luxury; it's a necessity. Make space for quality sleep, relaxation, and rejuvenation. Remember, you can't pour from an empty cup. 🛌💤

2️⃣ Set Boundaries: Learn to say no and set healthy boundaries. Protect your time and energy by prioritizing what truly matters to you. Remember, your well-being should never be compromised. ⏰🚫

3️⃣ Acknowledge your worth: Remember that you are deserving of love, care, and attention. Prioritizing self-care is not selfish, it's necessary for your overall health and happiness. You deserve to thrive! 🏆✨
